Founding ceremony of the State Representation of Lower Saxony-Bremen
There is exciting and forward-looking news! On April 18, we visited the Hotel Kokenhof in Hanover, where the official founding of the Lower Saxony-Bremen state representation took place. This is the fifth time that the fwd: Bundesvereinigung Veranstaltungswirtschaft e.V. has been founded and an important step towards representing the interests of the event industry at regional, national and international level.
This evening offered numerous fwd: members the opportunity to network, both with politicians and with other members, because we are all in the same boat! Together, we now need to find solutions to the current challenges facing the industry and grow as the state representation of Lower Saxony-Bremen – because every vote counts!
The state representation relies on a lively and regular exchange of information and experience between the players in the event industry and aims to strengthen the event industry, dispel prejudices and make the industry as a whole more attractive again in order to support the training and securing of skilled workers and to initiate necessary transformations, among other things. Another essential aspect is and remains the issue of sustainability and the sensible use of value chains.
We would like to congratulate Reinhard, who will lead the Lower Saxony-Bremen regional representation as Chairman of the Board in the future! He will be supported by Matthias Strupowsky, Managing Director of EMS Event- & Messe – Service GmbH, as Deputy Chairman and Lena Zeissig, Managing Director of ZEISSIG GmbH & Co KG, as Technical Director. Silke Schulte, Managing Director of fwd: Servicegesellschaft mbH, will take over as Treasurer.
The HR and salary study
Overall, many people feel that the situation in the event industry tends to be uncertain. People looking for training are inhibited, may not receive encouragement from their parents and reject the idea of learning in this field in order to look for alternatives.
A study published in January by fwd: Bundesvereinigung Veranstaltungswirtschaft in cooperation with the RIFEL Institute shows that the industry’s reputation is unfortunately worse than its career prospects:
The first part of the study looked at agencies, stand construction companies and event and trade fair departments in companies. It can be seen that Compared to average salaries in Germany in 2022, the event industry hardly differs in terms of salary levels and is even slightly above average in some cases.
Employees in the industry also benefit from flexible working time models (take a look at our previous blog post on work-life integration), the option of working from home and attractive fringe benefits. The second part of the study, which will be published soon, will include the areas of venues, catering, event technology, equipment and IT. We are looking forward to the results. Still a challenge: attracting qualified employees
As already mentioned, the event sector is currently not considered very attractive, despite its advantages. This makes it all the more important for companies to involve their employees and develop strategies for the future together with them. They must adapt to the needs and expectations of jobseekers and offer attractive working conditions and development opportunities as well as invest in benefits such as healthcare, as the health of employees has a direct impact on the performance and productivity of the company.
Companies have a significant influence on the well-being of their employees and their motivation! Motivated and satisfied employees are more committed, more productive and more loyal to their employer.

Positive outlook for the regional event industry
In order to make the scale, relevance and impact of the event industry even clearer, a further pilot study is planned, which was initiated by Reinhard Pommerel together with Dr. Slink, Managing Director of the Oldenburg Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
In cooperation with the fwd: Bundesvereinigung Veranstaltungswirtschaft e.V., the Oldenburg Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Bremen Chamber of Commerce and the Hamburg Institute of International Economics (HWWI Bremen branch), factors such as company focus, number of employees and turnover figures are to be examined. At the same time, the number of companies based in the respective chamber area and belonging to the event industry will be researched.
